Colposcopy @ Greenland Hospital
Colposcopy
Greenland Hospital being a multi-speciality centre extends the benefit of Colposcopy to the female patients who require this test. Colposcopy is a diagnostic procedure to check the cervix (lower part of the uterus), the wall of vagina and vulva for signs of cancerous and pre-cancerous tissue.
During the procedure, a special lighted microscope (Colposcope) magnifies the tissue that lines the cervix and vagina. Specially trained gynaecologists called Colposcopists perform the procedure. Colposcopies primarily check for cancer cells or cells that could become cancer if not treated (also called cervical dysplasia)
Colposcopy offers several benefits:
- Early detection and diagnosis of cervical abnormalities, potentially preventing serious health issues like cervical cancer
- It allows for a magnified detailed examination of the cervix, aiding in identifying abnormal cells and lesions
- Targeted biopsies lead to precise diagnosis of any potential abnormalities
- Better assessment of the severity of abnormal cell changes
- The procedure is safe and painless
- Prevention of serious health issues
